Weddings Behind Bars

Officiating ceremonies

in jail or prison

It is my clergy duty to serve all of my fellow humans, including the incarcerated and their loved ones.

If your partner is an inmate and you want to show your support and commitment, jail weddings are an option. A prison wedding may not be typical, but it’s neither rare nor impossible to achieve. Love is understandably a powerful thing that can overcome every obstacle, even if that obstacle is a set of prison bars.

Of course, there are many other reasons why a couple may choose to get married behind bars while one or both parties are incarcerated. No matter the reason, if you are looking to have a prison wedding or jail wedding, I can help make that so very special for you. I am a marriage officiant who officiates in jails and prisons in the New York Tri-State Area.

Weddings in Jails and Prisons Are Joyful

Yes, lucky is the prisoner who marries. It’s a rudder for a ship with a destination to head to – a life of committed love.

A few years ago, a woman found me online.  She explained that she needed to marry her man at Rikers as soon as possible because he was going to be moved soon to a prison far away upstate. So, we made a plan and got to it.  It was quite an experience; I had never been inside a prison.

The security protocol took a long time.  Then, we waited for the bus to take us from the entrance to the inmates’ building, and then waited over an hour and a half because of problems and lockdowns on his floor.

Finally, a guard led him to us and led us all to a room used for ceremonies.  It took around 12 minutes, as is my usual wedding ceremony length; he stayed, we left. I’ll never forget it.

Since then, I've officiated over ten weddings for loving couples at Rikers and the Vernon C. Bain Center. The personnel know and respect me, so I can help speed things along.  I would be honored to provide the dignity, beauty, and uplift you want in your wedding behind bars.

Are you looking for a compassionate and knowledgeable NY marriage officiant who can help with inmate jail weddings? If so, I will be more than happy to be that officiant for you.

Officiating Prison Marriages

You might be wondering, why did the bride have to contact a wedding officiant from the outside and not rely on the prison chaplain’s office? It’s because the prison chaplain’s offices never officiate or even recommend outside officiants.  Peeps have to find us. Though the experience was difficult, it felt right; it is my clergy duty to serve all of my fellow humans, including criminals in jail and their loved ones.  I want to help them steer their ships, so they can sail forward to their destination with love in their hearts and minds, and with legal responsibilities to help focus their efforts to reform and rehabilitate themselves.

At the end of the day, prisoners are still people just like you and me. We all make mistakes, and being an inmate doesn’t mean they can’t fall in love or nurture a relationship with other people anymore. As a New York City officiant, I want to do what I can to make it possible for these inmates to achieve the love and support they need from their partners. By officiating inmate jail weddings, I hope to at least set their hearts and minds at ease.

Thank you for visiting today. You can keep me in mind if ever you or someone you know is looking for an officiant for their prison wedding in New York.
